Re: Deftones
Man, everyone needs to check out theprp.com and look at those deftones videos from the Chi shows.
They have a fuck load of guest appearances and that chick from Knife Party does those bad ass screams.

Re: Deftones
Those videos from the chi benefit were awesome, everyone should check it out!

Re: Deftones
Saw this on the prp and thought I'd share it.. I loved this article! especially this line:
Do Deftones have any studio pastimes, or is there anything you can't live without while recording?
Chino: Hmmm… weed? [laughs].
On a serious note, the guy is a genious at explaining his lyrics. I think a lot of people do this but he lays it out neat...
What direction are you going in lyrically?
Chino: Well, I've been wanting to record a fantasy album like White Pony, where the lyrics are less, 'This is my life and this is what we're going through.' It helps take us away from reality. I don't like listening to people's problems -- I like music. Music has been smothered with that complaining since the early-'90s. It gets old. Instead of going to the opposite side of the spectrum and listening to Black Eyed Peas, which is just straight silly, I choose to listen to more instrumental music. I do very little singing about myself on this record. I love songs where I can totally take myself out of being human. I can sing about really odd things, and they don't necessarily have to pertain to me at all. It paints a picture. Those are the kind of lyrics I grew up with -- like the Cure. Really visual images and no storytelling.

Re: Deftones
I thought it was a very good interview. I cant wait for May...if it actually is released then. Nice to hear an update on Chi. Poor dude. Also another Chino side project could be fun. Team Sleep was excellent.

Re: Deftones
Deftones are one of my fav bands. Seen them live countless times. I was a little disappointed in SNW though. The new song they've been playing "Rocket Skates" sounds great though!! It has a real ATF vibe to me. I think having Sergio on bass has breathed new life into them. Hopefully Chi gets well soon!!
Re: Deftones
Whaaaaaaaaa SNW was like their best record after White Pony IMO, front-to-back. Every song is good ("Mein", "Rapture") to great ("Hole In The Earth", "Xerces", instrumental, "Riviere") to spectacular ("Combat", "Kimdracula", "Beware", "Cherry Waves", "Rats!Rats!Rats!"). Sure, one "clearly-a-joke" song, but that record is fucking awesome. Chino's best vocals on a Deftones (except some of those screams... dude needs to take lessons) yet, Abe's best drumming, Chi's line in "Cherry Waves"... and Frank isn't just a prop anymore ![]()
Re: Deftones
Yeah SNW is a good album, actually the only bad album they made was Deftones.
Re: Deftones
Beware and Xerces are a few of my favorite Deftones songs.........However as a whole it just didnt do it for me.....It was better then their self titled, thats for sure. I'd be interested to hear Eros, hearing Chino describe it as experimental and dark is interesting. I thought the S/T album was very dark.
Re: Deftones
Everything they have put out I love, except for that damn song Lucky You, that should have never been on a Deftones release.
Very excited for the new album, hope Chi pulls through.

Re: Deftones
like the Cure. Really visual images and no storytelling.
This seems like terrible word choice. Storytelling is what the Cure does, and storytelling is very dependent on imagery.

Re: Deftones
SNW was great. "Kimdracula" may be one of the best songs they've ever written.
Im a Deftones fan, the only song i ever skip by them is "Pink Cellphone." I cant wait for the new album, and a listen to the Eros material one day.
